Are Your Leaving Behind a Legacy

Have you ever thought about what people will actually say about you when you’re gone?

Would it surprise you to know that it probably won’t be:

How hard you worked

How much money you made

How expensive your house was

Who got the car

Well…. they are likely NOT going to talk about 

What you owned…
Who got what

What your house sold for…
Not even what was written in your will…

No even despite some of the more cynical out there – studies show that more often than not after the death of a family member – the last memories are focused on How you made them feel and what they remember about your time together. 

“The way she laughed” 

“Sunday dinners” 

“How he handled hard times” 

“You were always there at the ball games”

Those are the real things that carry on.

So why do we spend some much focus on our stuff – who gets what and how much. Estate plan is more than a distribution list.  It’s about life, legacy and leaving memories of you and your generation past as an important piece of your family’s history.

Most estate plans are built around distributing assets and property while very few are built around preserving identity, values, and legacy. I rarely see that – although those memories are the most recurring item that family, friends, community crave when someone dies.  

Your estate plan – should be about you.

Today, we’re talking about a different kind of estate planning.
One that goes beyond documents and dollars…
And focuses on something far more lasting:

👉 Who you are
👉 What you believe
👉 And what you want to carry forward through the people you love

I think this is an integral part of an estate plan.  Talk more about that and offer some tips and resources to you that might help you create some of those as part of your estate plan.

This reframes success—and legacy—as impact, not accumulation.

What would you tell someone else about your life?   That’s your legacy.
