In this episode, I discuss emergency preparedness for seniors in the wake of Hurricane Helene, and now with Milton emerging in Florida.
I want to make sure resources reach those in need, and mentioned in this episode is an emergency preparedness checklist of recommended items to check for when severe and catastrophic weather is in the forecast. This is in the event that you are without food and power.
Nancy’s Emergency Preparedness Checklist
- One gallon of water per person per day
- Canned food, dried food, nonperishables
- Batteries
- Handcrank radio
- Matches and candles
- Knife
- Tinfoil
- Plastic bags
- Disposable cups
During this time you also need to be wary of scammers who want to take advantage of a horrific situation. Be sure to give to reputable sources, including:
- Red Cross
- Samaritan’s Purse
- Efforts organized by your local elected officials
You can also visit FTC.gov to learn about the latest scams, especially those surrounding the events of Hurricane Helene.
